SPC-F1 is a water based acidic solution which will break up metal oxides and hydroxides formed on the surface of corroding ferrous metals as well as removing stains from other substrates. SPC-F1 reduces health and safety risks as it is non-flammable, non-toxic and biodegradable product. Supplied in liquid form for dipping it can also be used as a wash to remove flash rust and rust stains. A sister product SPC-F2 can be applied by spray or brush for similar applications.


SPC-F1 should be contained in a suitable dip tank (Polyethylene (HDPE) or Polypropylene (PP) material). Corroded metals should be completely immersed, left to soak, and power washed when removed. Once dry it is advised that the surface is coated quickly with a suitable primer. Rust is the substance formed when iron compounds corrode in the presence of water and oxygen. When an iron compound comes into contact with a drop of water, an electrochemical process starts. On the surface of the metal, iron is oxidised to iron II oxide which is black in colour but what is more visible is the formation of iron III hydroxide which is red-brown.


SPC- F1 is designed to minimize health and environmental risks. It is non carcinogenic and contains no toxic elements. It also reduces the amount of hazardous waste generated. SPC- F1is a water based product which is acid activated. Although containing very small amounts of acid, wearing protective gloves and goggles or face protection is recommended ( for details, read the Safety Data Sheet before use.


Coverage – Dipping methods vary depending on the severity of corrosion and it is important that the entire surface to be de-rusted is immersed. When using as a wash allow the stain or surface to absorb SPC-F1 before rinsing with fresh water.

The use of non-absorbent masking tape is advised when dipping. All surfaces including rubber and plastic should be taped or enclosed by polythene. On heavily rusted pieces power washing is recommended prior to dipping to remove loose scale. It is also important to wash and degrease the surface (SPC-801 General Purpose Solvent) as oily contaminants will inhibit SPC-F1 activity.


It is recommended that temperatures are above 5 to 10°C. The product works better at warmer temperatures. Dip tanks should be covered but not sealed. Good ventilation should be provided in confined areas.


SPC-F1 is a product that can be used for DIPPING more than once. If using in a constant process the pH of SPC-F1 should be monitored to ensure best results. It is also advisable to clean out the bottom sediment on a regular basis to maximize the products activity. When applying by CLOTH or BRUSH it is important to use a soft medium and apply generously to ensure an even and adequate coverage. SPC-F1 should be worked into the surface and allowed to activate before removal. Some of the best results gained with SPC-F1 are from using a RECYCLE CATCH AND SPRAY SYSTEM where the pressure and flow are dependent on pump and spray outlet size. This aids the activity of the product and can be used in conjunction with a small dip tank.


When using chemical removal products the first rule is not to remove them until they have been given time to work. It is therefore recommended that a minimum dwell time of 4 hours should be given. SPC-F1 will turn a dark green colour when activated. Patch tests are very important and must be carried out prior to application.


It is important to note that SPC-F1 contains no rust inhibitors. The surface will flash rust directly when rinsed with pressured water. It is advised that the chosen paint system be applied as quickly as possible. Paint manufacturer’s guideline should be adhered to for required surface preparation. Some paints can be applied over damp or wet surfaces.


All containers are HDPE and can be punctured or split if not handled with appropriate care. Pails and drums must be secured during transportation to prevent damage. Lids, cap and closures must be tightened when products are being transported. SPC-F1 is produced from organic chemicals and is fully biodegradable. Neutralizing and dilution with water will be required to meet local waste or sewage disposal requirements. Spills should be contained and disposed under the same requirements.


Rust Remover SPC-F1 should be stored in a cool dry environment. Extended storage at temperatures exceeding 35°C is not advised and may reduce the products efficacy. All containers must be sealed properly when stored.


Avoid direct contact of the product with skin. Wear chemical splash goggles, rubber boots and gloves. Areas in direct contact with product including clothing should be washed thoroughly with water. Product may cause slight eye irritation and harmful if swallowed. Read label and MSDS before use.
